SMITHTON - Brooke Struemph missed on her first try, but she got her own rebound and scored the putback at the buzzer Monday to lift the St. Elizabeth Lady Hornets to a 39-37 win against the Smithton Lady Tigers.
Smithton made 1-of-2 free throws with about 10 seconds left in the game to tie the score at 37 and set up St. Elizabeth's last-second win.
The two teams were tied at 8 after one quarter and St. Elizabeth held a 20-17 lead at halftime. The Lady Hornets extended their advantage to 30-23 through three quarters, but the Lady Tigers rallied by making three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter.
Struemph led St. Elizabeth with 19 points and 16 rebounds. She has posted a double-double in four of her team's five games this season.
Jenna Snapp led Smithton with eight points.
St. Elizabeth (3-2) will host Crocker on Thursday.
In the JV game, St. Elizabeth beat Smithton 15-4 in a two-quarter contest.
