Prep Basketball: Lady Jays win at Kickapoo

SPRINGFIELD - The Jefferson City Lady Jays pulled off a road upset Wednesday night by defeating top-ranked Kickapoo 51-45.

The 10th-ranked Lady Jays held a slim 25-24 lead at halftime before outscoring the Lady Chiefs 26-21 in the second half.

Kickapoo is the defending state champion in Class 5.

"It's a big win for our program," Lady Jays coach Brad Conway said. "They have bought into what we want to do."

Lexy Haug paced Jefferson City with 26 points. 

"Lexy kind of had a breakout night and we had some kids step up," Conway said.

Caitlin Anderson recorded five points, 10 rebounds and six assists. McKenzie Gourley and Sydney Crockett each scored eight for the Lady Jays.

Jefferson City (3-0) is back in action Saturday when it plays in the Norm Stewart Classic at Columbia College. The Lady Jays face Raytown South at 4 p.m.
