College Volleyball: Maxwell receives MIAA weekly honor

TOPEKA, Kan. - Washburn junior middle hitter Allison Maxwell was named the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association volleyball hitter of the week, the league announced Monday.

Maxwell (Blair Oaks High School) received the honors for the second straight week - she shared the award Sept. 9 with Northwest Missouri's Hallie Sidney - and has been named the MIAA's weekly top hitter four times in her career.

Maxwell helped the Ichabods to four sweeps last Friday and Saturday in the Skyhawks Volleyball Tournament at Durango, Colo. She finished with 37 total kills - 10 each in wins against Fort Lewis, West Texas A&M and Adams State - and also recorded nine total blocks.

Maxwell's 78 kills rank 14th in the MIAA, while her .356 hitting percentage is seventh in the league. She leads the MIAA with an average of one block per set.

Washburn (9-0), ranked No. 3 in NCAA Division II, hosts sixth-ranked Nebraska-Kearney today.
