College Cross Country: Engelbrecht named AMC runner of the week

FULTON - William Woods sophomore Alicia Engelbrecht was honored as the American Midwest Conference women's cross country runner of the week, the league announced Monday.

Engelbrecht (Helias High School) finished in fourth place in Saturday's Cottey College Invitational in Nevada, Mo., posting a time of 19:52.82.

Engelbrecht's time was the fastest of any NAIA competitor in the race. Her time was 11-hundredths behind her personal-best in a women's 5K race, which was set earlier this month at the Southwest Baptist Invitational.

This is Engelbrecht's first weekly honor in cross country from the AMC.

The Owls finished second as a team, trailing only Rockhurst, which had the top three finishers.

William Woods junior Harley Nale (Linn High School) finished in 27th place with a time of 22:47.79.

Missouri Valley freshman Lindsey Brandt (Russellville High School) was one spot ahead of her former Show-Me Conference foe, placing 26th with a time of 22:39.69.

In the men's 8K race, William Woods junior Hunter Carpenter (California High School) came in 14th place with a time of 28:30.06.
