College Track: Area athletes earn All-AMC honors

GREENVILLE, Ill. - Six area athletes received all-conference honors last Friday and Saturday at the American Midwest Conference Championships.

Athletes finishing in the top three in events received All-AMC honors.

Columbia College freshman Brianna Haller (Fatima High School) took second place in the women's 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:19.00.

Haller also placed fourth in the 1,500-meter run (5:06.34) and 10th in the 800-meter run (2:39.98).

Columbia College freshman Halie Moeller (Fatima High School) tied for second in the women's pole vault, clearing a height of 8 feet, 11.5 inches.

Moeller also placed fifth in the 400-meter dash (1:04.07) and 16th in the 200-meter dash preliminaries (28.03 seconds). She helped the Cougars to a seventh-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay in a time of 4:37.32.

William Woods sophomore Hunter Carpenter (California High School) helped the Owls to a second-place finish in the men's 4x800-meter relay with a time of 8:07.42.

Carpenter also took sixth place in the 800 (2:03.43).

William Woods junior Ryan Esterline (Jefferson City High School) and freshman Alicia Engelbrecht (Helias High School) ran on the Owls' 4x800 relay, which took third place in a time of 10:19.05.

Esterline added another All-AMC performance in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing third in 12:56.07.

Engelbrecht scored points for the Owls with seventh-place finishes in the 800 (2:36.40) and the 1,500 (5:12.62).

William Woods sophomore Naomi Kerkula (Jefferson City High School) had a pair of third-place finishes in the Owls' relay events. She helped the women's 4x100-meter relay finish with a time of 53.47 seconds, while the 4x400 clocked a time of 4:12.86.

In individual events, Kerkula was fifth in the 100-meter dash (13.04 seconds), seventh in the 400-meter hurdles (1:18.62) and eighth in the 200-meter dash (27.79 seconds).

Columbia College freshman Tessa Edgar (Versailles High School) posted three top-six finishes at the conference meet. She finished fifth in the long jump (16-5), tied for fifth in the high jump (4-7.75) and placed sixth in the javelin (98-10).

Missouri Baptist senior Andrea Hughes (Jefferson City High School) scored points for the Spartans in three events as well. She placed fifth in both the women's discus (117-10) and hammer throw (127-9) and took seventh in the shot put (37-2.5).

William Woods senior Cassidy Roling (Helias High School) finished sixth in the women's discus with a throw of 112-10.

In the women's 5,000, William Woods freshman Elizabeth Luebbert (South Callaway High School) finished ninth in 20:52.70, while sophomore Shaley Eichholz (Eugene High School) took 17th in 23:17.13 for the Owls.

Columbia College freshman Harrison Frank (Russellville High School) placed fifth in the 800 with a time of 2:03.02.

In the men's 1,500, William woods junior Matt Fringer (Russellville High School) was 17th in 4:36.10, while Missouri Baptist junior Brian Jordan (School of the Osage High School) placed 25th in 4:58.10. William Woods junior Charlie Schattgen (New Bloomfield High School) finished 21st in the men's 5,000 in 17:31.80.

Williams Baptist sophomore Jacob Whittle (Eldon High School) competed in five events at the conference meet. He helped the Eagles to seventh-place finishes in the men's 4x100 (46.43 seconds) and 4x400 (3:32.80).

In individual events, Whittle was 16th in the 400 preliminaries (53.20 seconds), 20th in the javelin (117-11) and 25th in the 200 preliminaries (23.75 seconds).
