Missouri wrestling sixth after Day 1 of NCAA Championships

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Eight of the nine Missouri Tigers kept their seasons going during the first day of the NCAA Championships on Thursday.

The Tigers are sixth in the team standings with 18 points. Penn State leads the way at 32.5 points with Ohio State (25.5), Iowa (24), Minnesota (20) and Oklahoma State (20) holding the top five spots.

Winning a pair of matches to advance to the quarterfinals for Missouri were John Erneste at 133 pounds, Jaydin Eierman at 141, Brock Mauller at 149 and Daniel Lewis at 174.

Finishing the day at 1-1 were Jarrett Jacques at 157, Connor Flynn at 165, Dylan Wisman at 184 and Zach Elam at 285.

Losing a pair of matches was Dack Punke at 125.

The championships will continue through Saturday.
