College Baseball: Welschmeyer homers twice in DH

HENDERSON, Tenn. - Hannibal-LaGrange sophomore designated hitter Garrett Welschmeyer homered in each game of Saturday's doubleheader against No. 6 Freed-Hardeman.

Welschmeyer (Blair Oaks High School) hit a solo home run to center field in a 6-4 loss in Game 1, then hit another solo shot to left field in Game 2, a 13-3 loss.

The hone runs were the first of Welschmeyer's collegiate career.

In 10 games this season, Welschmeyer is batting .296 (8-for-27) with seven RBI.

Sophomore pitcher Graysan Peneston (South Callaway) pitched two-thirds innings of relief in Game 1, walking two batters and striking out one.

If five games, Peneston has a 1-0 record with an 8.64 ERA and six strikeouts in 8 innings.

Hannibal-LaGrange (7-13) hosts Graceland today.
