College Baseball: Helsel has three-hit game

JOPLIN - Drury freshman outfielder Kaden Helsel went 3-for-5 last Wednesday, leading the Panthers to a 17-8 win against No. 19 Missouri Southern.

Helsel (South Callaway High School), who also scored a pair of runs, hit an RBI single in the second inning to tie the game at 1. He also had a double in the fourth and singled again in the fifth.

Batting in five games this season, Helsel is hitting .429 (6-for-14) with five RBI and three runs scored. As a pitcher, he has a 2-2 record with one save in six appearances, posting a 4.55 ERA with 29 strikeouts in 29 innings.

Freshman catcher Austin Fennewald (Helias High School) made his first collegiate start against Missouri Southern. He went 1-for-4 with an RBI groundout in the fifth inning.

In three appearances this season, Fennewald is 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored.

Drury (10-11) plays a doubleheader Wednesday at Rockhurst.
