Renegades record second-ever MINK shutout in 5-0 win at Chillicothe

CHILLICOTHE - The Jefferson City Renegades have been on the winning side of a shutout twice in MINK League play in their two-plus seasons in the league.

Both have come against the Chillicothe Mudcats.

Dylan Dunbar and Shane Fontenot combined to pitch a shutout in a 5-0 victory Tuesday night against the Mudcats.

The only other shutout for the Renegades came last season in an 11-0 win July 13 at Chillicothe.

Chillicothe managed just five hits off Dunbar, who improved his season record to 1-1 in five appearances.

Dunbar allowed four Mudcats to reach scoring position, but Chillicothe left a runner at third in the first and sixth innings, and stranded a runner at second in the second and fourth innings.

Fontenot got into trouble when he entered the seventh inning with a runner on and two outs, allowing a single and committing an error to load the bases.

But he got himself out of the jam with a groundout to second base.

That single was the lone hit off Fontenot, who struck out two and walked none in 2 innings.

Dunbar struck out four and walked none in 6 innings, his longest outing of the season.

Leading the Jefferson City bats was Ryan Missal, who nearly doubled his RBI total with a bases-clearing double in the fourth inning to give the Renegades a 3-0 lead.

Missal entered the game with four RBI on the season and hadn't driven anyone in since a two-RBI performance against the Clarinda A's on June 2.

Missal also doubled in the sixth and scored on a Peyton Leeper single to finish 2-for-5.

The Renegades got their other run when Dede Cole scored on a wild pitch in the fifth.

Leeper, Cole and Thomas Ruether each had two hits for an 11-hit Renegades attack.

Tyler Ingram took the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks in 4 innings.

Jefferson City (7-7) is scheduled to host the Des Moines Peak Prospects for a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m. today at Vivion Field.
