College Track: Roberson wins weight throw

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Southern Illinois junior Alexis Roberson moved into the No. 7 spot in the Salukis' all-time list in the women's weight throw Saturday at the John Gartland Invitational.

Roberson (Jefferson City High School) was one of 11 Salukis to win titles at the meet, placing first with a throw of 69 feet, 7 inches, topping her personal best of 67-6.75 set last month at the Saluki Fast Start, where she also won the weight throw.

Her winning throw currently ranks 11th in the weight throw at the NCAA Division I level. The best throw this season is 73-11.5 by Tennessee senior Stamatia Scarvelis.

Brittany Riley holds the Southern Illinois record in the women's weight throw at 83-10.5, which was a world record set in 2007 and lasted more than 10 years.

Missouri State freshman Emily Yaeger (Blair Oaks High School) finished 18th in the women's mile run Saturday with a time of 5:34.22.

Southern Illinois competes Friday and Saturday at the Indiana Relays.
