College Track: Fife second in shot put at Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Missouri redshirt senior Will Fife took second place Saturday in the men's shot put at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational.

Fife (Helias High School) picked up eight team points for the Tigers with a throw of 59 feet, 10.5 inches, just 4.5 inches behind event champion Jonathan Tharaldsen of Minnesota.

The throw is a new personal best for Fife in indoor competition, beating his previous mark of 59-0.75 set last month at the Missouri Holiday Opener.

Fife moved into No. 10 on Missouri's all-time performance list in the indoor shot put with Saturday's throw, which ranks 34th in Division I this season. Eldon graduate Christian Cantwell set the program record with a throw of 68-5.25 for the Tigers in March 2002.

Missouri sophomore Jason Edwards (School of the Osage High School) finished 12th in the men's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.01 seconds. On Friday, he opened the two-day meet with a jump of 21-2.5 in the long jump to take 13th place.

Missouri hosts the Mizzou Open on Friday at the Hearnes Center.
