College Track and Field: Shea wins at Illini Open

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Southeast Missouri senior Kaitlyn Shea finished first Saturday in the women's 3,000-meter run at the Illini Open.

Shea (Helias High School) clocked a winning time of 10:04.49, recording 10 of the Redhawks' 102 points in the team standings. Southeast Missouri finished second behind host Illinois, which scored 156.5 points.

Shea is now 2-for-2 in first-place finishes this indoor track and field season in the 3,000. She opened the season last month with a win in 10:18.47 in the SEMO vs. SIUE dual meet, winning the event at that meet for the third consecutive season.

During her indoor career, Shea has won the 3,000 six times for the Redhawks.

Southeast Missouri competes Friday and Saturday in the Samford Open.
