Lincoln to host Mo. Southern in basketball twinbill

The Lincoln Blue Tigers conclude their first home weekend of Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play today with a doubleheader against the Missouri Southern Lions.

The women's game begins at 1 p.m. at Jason Gym, followed by the men's game at 3 p.m.

In the women's game, both teams are coming off losses Thursday night. Lincoln (9-3, 1-2 MIAA) dropped a 98-68 decision to Pittsburg State, while Missouri Southern (9-4, 1-2 MIAA) fell 79-71 at Lindenwood.

The Lions are led by Chelsey Henry, a 5-foot-10 senior guard who averages a team-best 16.8 points per game. She was an All-MIAA honorable mention pick last season.

Henry has led Missouri Southern in scoring in five of their past six games, including 22 points against Lindenwood.

Chasidee Owens, a 5-10 junior guard, also averages double figures with 10.9 points per game. She also leads the Lions with 7.3 rebounds per contest.

Lincoln has three players averaging double figures in scoring, led by 5-6 senior guard Zoi Thompson with 16.6 points per game.

Zhanesha Dickerson, a 5-9 senior forward, averages 16.0 points and leads the team with 9.3 rebounds per game. Bre Coleman, a 6-2 senior forward, is averaging 15.3 points per game.

Missouri Southern leads the overall series 29-3 against the Lincoln women. The Blue Tigers last beat the Lions 66-61 during the 2011-12 season at home.

In the men's game, both teams enter with 2-1 records in the MIAA.

Missouri Southern (11-2), ranked No. 20 in the National Association of Basketball Coaches' NCAA Division II Top 25 poll, is coming off a 79-57 loss Thursday at Lindenwood. That snapped an 11-game win streak for the Lions.

Four players average double figures in scoring for the Lions. Cam Martin, a 6-9 sophomore forward, leads the team with 23.2 points and 8.1 rebounds per game.

Kinzer Lambert, a 6-4 junior guard, has scored 17.4 points per game, while Elyjah Clark, a 6-3 junior guard, has 15.0 points per game. Reggie Tharp, a 6-0 junior guard, is also in double figures with 10.3 points per game.

Clark made the All-MIAA second team last season, while Lambert was an All-MIAA honorable mention. Missouri Southern was picked to win the MIAA in the coaches' preseason poll.

Lincoln (9-3) scored a season high in Thursday's 96-85 win against Pittsburg State. The Blue Tigers have won five straight games since losing 85-78 to second-ranked Northwest Missouri.

The Blue Tigers also have four players averaging double figures in scoring: 6-8 senior forward Terrance Smith (16.5), 6-4 junior guard Jonell Burton (13.6), 6-3 senior guard Amariontez Ivory (13.5) and 6-0 junior guard Ni'Sean Rigmaiden (11.3).

Smith also leads the team with 6.4 rebounds per game, while Rigmaiden is averaging 4.7 assists per game.

Missouri Southern leads the overall series against Lincoln 28-10. The Blue Tigers last beat the Lions 75-72 during the 2016-17 season in Joplin.
