College Track and Field: Shea, Yaeger win tune-up

CAPE GIRARDEAU - Southeast Missouri seniors Kaitlyn Shea and Nick Yaeger each picked up an event win Friday in the Redhawk Open, the team's final tune-up before the Ohio Valley Conference Championships.

Shea (Helias High School) clocked a winning time of 18:00.00 in the women's 5,000-meter run, her first time competing in the indoor event in two seasons.

Yaeger (Blair Oaks High School) won the men's long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 9 inches. The win is Yaeger's first victory since winning with the Redhawks' 4x400-meter relay team Dec. 9, 2016.

Southeast Missouri competes today and Thursday in the OVC Championships.
