Lincoln softball swept in twinbill by Lane

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Lincoln softball team opened the 2019 season Saturday with losses of 6-1 and 2-1 in a doubleheader against Lane College.

In Game 1, Lane scored all of its runs on a pair of three-RBI hits: a three-run home run in the first inning and a bases-clearing double in the second.

Gabi McGinty put Lincoln on the scoreboard with an RBI double in the top of the sixth, scoring Casey Grover.

Hannah Hennessy took the loss in her debut with the Blue Tigers.

In six innings, she allowed six runs on eight hits and finished with eight strikeouts without yielding a walk.

Lincoln took the early lead in Game 2, scoring its only run of the game in the top of the second. Mykenzie Livesay's two-out single scored Pryor to make the score 1-0.

Lane took the lead in the fourth with a pair of RBI singles.

The Blue Tigers had chances to even the score, but left the tying runs on base in scoring position in the fifth and sixth innings.

Pryor went 3-for-3 at the plate with three singles. Jordan Lawson added a pair of hits, including a double.

In six innings, Shannon Green allowed two runs on seven hits in her Lincoln debut. She allowed no walks and struck out seven.

The Blue Tigers collected five hits in Game 1 and nine more in Game 2.

Lincoln (0-2) will begin play Friday in the Charger Chillout 2.0 at Huntsville, Ala.

The Blue Tigers open against Christian Brothers College at 2 p.m., followed by Montevallo at 4 p.m.
