College Track: Rhoads wins discus at Dewey Allgood Invite

ROLLA - Missouri S&T freshman Jessica Rhoads posted two personal bests and an event win Friday and Saturday at the Dewey Allgood Invitational, hosted by the Miners.

Rhoads (Jefferson City High School) took first in the women's discus with a personal-best throw of 139 feet, 6 inches. She won the event ahead of William Jewell's Taylor Golden, who was second at 135-5.

The win is the third this season for Rhoads, and her second in the discus.

Rhoads added another persona best in the hammer throw, finishing sixth with a toss of 142-0. She also took fourth in the shot put with a throw of 39-8.5.

Her previous personal bests were 134-10 in the discus and 132-11 in the hammer throw.

Missouri S&T sophomore Luke Allen (Calvary Lutheran High School) had three top-four finishes for the Miners. His best finish was third place in the men's long jump, where he jumped 23-0.

Allen set a personal best in the triple jump with a distance of 45-4.25, taking fourth place. He also finished four with the Miners' 4x100-meter relay, which took fourth in 43.10 seconds.

Missouri S&T junior Daniel Miller (Jefferson City High School) also took fourth place in the men's hammer throw with a toss of 153-9.

Missouri S&T senior Tori Bonnot (Jefferson City High School) competed in three events for the Miners. She set a personal-best time of 2:30.13 in the women's 800-meter run, finishing in 13th place.

Bonnot also placed ninth on the Miners' 4x400-meter relay (4:27.65) and 10th in the 1,500-meter run (5:00.82).

William Jewell junior Lexie Stull (Jefferson City High School) was sixth in the women's triple jump with a distance of 34-11. She also took 15th place in the long jump with a leap of 15-1.25.

William Woods freshman Cole Brenneke (Blair Oaks High School) competed in three events for the Owls. He posted personal bests in the men's pole vault (12-10.25) and javelin (149-10), placing sixth and seventh, respectively, in those events. He also took 14th in the discus with a throw of 104-10.

William Woods junior Ryan Esterline (Jefferson City High School), competing in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase for the first time of her career, finished eighth with a time of 13:05.19.

William Woods sophomore Naomi Kerkula (Jefferson City High School) competed in three events for the Owls. She was on the 4x400 relay, which placed eighth in 4:21.89.

Kerkula also took 12th place in the 400-meter dash (1:04.23) and 13th place in the 200-meter dash (27.31 seconds).

William Woods senior Cassidy Roling (Helias High School) came in 10th place in the women's hammer throw with a toss of 134-2. She also took 15th place in the discus at 105-0.

William Woods freshman Alicia Engelbrecht (Helias High School) posted a personal-best time of 5:18.12 in the women's 1,500, good for 16th place. She also took 21st in the 800 in 2:38.13. Sophomore Shaley Eichholz (Eugene High School) also ran in the 1,500, finishing 33rd in 6:33.91.

William Woods sophomore Hunter Carpenter (California High School) finished 22nd in the men's 800 with a personal-best time of 2:00.72.

William Woods junior Matt Fringer (Russellville High School) placed 35th in the men's 1,500 (4:35.55), while junior Charlie Schattgen (New Bloomfield High School) was 38th in 4:40.84.
