Blue Tigers fall behind early in 41-17 loss to Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indianapolis Greyhounds set the tone in Saturday night's game on the opening kick.

Toriano Clinton returned the kick 99 yards for a touchdown, and Indianapolis followed with 24 consecutive points to roll past the Lincoln Blue Tigers for a 41-17 Homecoming win in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

Indianapolis led 31-0 late into the second quarter. Lincoln ended the threat of a shutout with a 7-yard touchdown pass from Henry Ogala to Ezekial Lang in the final minute of the first half, making the score 31-7 at the break.

The Blue Tigers had possession of the ball three times in the second half and scored twice on those drives.

Their first possession, a 12-play, 71-yard drive, ended with a 1-yard touchdown run by Terry Hunter. Fernando Ramirez added his second extra point of the night to cut the Indianapolis lead to 31-14 with 5:46 left in the third quarter.

The Greyhounds followed with a touchdown pass to Malik Higgins, who caught three TD passes for the second straight week. He caught six passes for 134 yards.

Lincoln answered with a 32-yard field goal by Ramirez on its ensuing drive to make the score 38-17 in the opening minute of the fourth quarter. Indianapolis added a field goal with 8:59 to play to push its lead back to 24 points.

The Blue Tigers fumbled on two of their first-half possessions - both occurred near midfield - and missed a 45-yard field-goal attempt in the second quarter.

Indianapolis scored on five of its first seven possessions. The Greyhounds had 475 yards of total offense, compared to 303 for the Blue Tigers.

Ogala was 15-of-30 passing for 168 yards. Blake Tibbs led the Blue Tigers with eight catches for 95 yards.

Kimbo Ferguson rushed for a career-high 127 yards on 20 carries. The rest of the Lincoln offense accounted for just eight net yards rushing.

Al McKellar led No. 22 Indianapolis (3-1, 2-0 GLVC) with 11 carries for 110 yards and a touchdown.

Edwin Durassaint and Victor Williams each recorded seven tackles to lead the Blue Tigers on defense.

Lincoln (2-3, 1-1 GLVC) will host Quincy at 2 p.m. Saturday at Dwight T. Reed Stadium for Homecoming. The Hawks (1-4, 0-1 GLVC) lost their conference opener 48-14 on Saturday at home against McKendree.
