FULTON - William Woods senior Paige Smith and playing partner Julia Perez Wienese posted a 2-1 record last Wednesday to take second place in the WWU Doubles Invitational.
Smith (Jefferson City High School) and Perez Wiesene opened the tournament - which featured 10 doubles pairings from three schools - with an 8-5 win against Lindenwood's Natalia Cordero and Fernanda Poblete in the quarterfinals. They then defeated fellow teammates Felicia Cesar and Karyna Sagalai 9-7 in the semifinals.
In the championship match, which was an all-William Woods final, Smith and Perez Wiesene dropped an 8-4 decision to Chelsea Steward and Korina Zarari.
