Women's Basketball: Brandt scores 1,000th point

COLUMBIA - Columbia College senior guard Morgan Brandt surpassed 1,000 career points Friday in Columbia College's season opener, a 72-62 win against Cardinal Stritch in the Cougars vs. Cancer Tip-Off Classic.

Brandt (Fatima High School) entered her final season with 996 career points. She scored her 1,000th point on a basket after grabbing an offensive rebound just 2:13 into the game, extending the Cougars' lead to 8-2.

Brandt is the 13th player in Columbia College women's basketball history to surpass 1,000 career points. She finished with a double-double of 23 points and 12 rebounds in the win, adding six steals to move into seventh place on the program's all-time steals list with 174.

Junior forward Mai Nienhueser (Helias High School) added four points, two rebounds and two assists in Friday's win.

Columbia College (2-0), which also defeated Missouri Valley 48-44 on Saturday, hosts Stephens College on Thursday.
