College Baseball: Cassmeyer named MIAA's top freshman

KANSAS CITY - Lindenwood pitcher Tyler Cassmeyer was named the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association freshman of the year, the league announced Thursday.

Cassmeyer (Helias High School) posted a 7-3 record this spring for the Lions, holding opponents to a .214 batting average. He finished the season with a 3.01 ERA and struck out 79 batters in 83 innings.

In addition, Cassmeyer was one of three starting pitchers selected to the All-MIAA second team.

Central Missouri junior Luke Mercer (Tipton High School) was one of two relief pitchers selected to the All-MIAA third team.
