Lincoln's Edie named field athlete of the year

Lincoln senior Sedeekie Edie was named the NCAA Division II men's national field athlete of the year, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Wednesday.

Edie won the men's long jump title last week at the indoor track and field championships, the second time in three years he has won the event. Edie added a runner-up finish in the triple jump, scoring all 18 points for the Lincoln men in the team standings.

At the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association championships, Edie also won the long jump conference title and finished second in the triple jump. He was one of six athletes during the indoor season to hit an automatic-qualifying mark in the triple jump.

Edie is the first Lincoln male athlete to receive the NCAA Division II indoor track or field athlete of the year award.

Lincoln opens the outdoor track and field season March 24 at the Washington Mini Meet in St. Louis.
