Heckemeyer finishes in top six in two events at nationals

PITTSBURG, Kan. - Missouri Southern senior Allie Heckemeyer qualified for the NCAA Division II indoor track and field championship in two events.

She's coming home with two All-American plaques, finishing third in the women's pentathlon and then placing sixth in the triple jump Saturday.

Heckemeyer (St. Elizabeth High School) scored a school-record 3,854 points in the pentathlon. Her best finishes came in the long jump (19 feet, 0.5 inches) and the 800-meter run (2:22.46), placing third in both events.

She also finished fifth out of 16 competitors in the shot put (34-5), sixth in the high jump (5-7) and 11th in the 60-meter hurdles (9.25 seconds).

Shortly after the pentathlon, Heckemeyer took part in the triple jump. Her preliminary jump of 40-1.5 advanced to the finals by about four inches. She then jumped 40-6.75 on her second of three jumps in the finals to claim sixth place.

Heckemeyer posted nine points to Missouri Southern's team score at the national championships. The Gorillas tied for fifth place in the team standings with 30 points.
