Lincoln's Edie wins NCAA D-II indoor long jump title

PITTSBURG, Kan. - The Lincoln men's track and field team is tied for fifth place after the first day of the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Sedeekie Edie saved his best for last as his leap of 25 feet, 5.5 inches on his final attempt in the long jump earned him the national championship Friday. He also won the title in 2016 and was the runner-up finisher last season.

Edie will compete in the triple jump tonight.

Faedian Royes qualified for the 400-meter dash finals by recording a time of 47.24 seconds, the sixth best time, in Friday's preliminaries.

Lincoln's 4x400-meter relay team of Kevon Robinson, Jeromia Riley, Royes and Tyrese Halls will compete tonight.

Adams State leads the team standings with 20 points. Lincoln is tied with three teams with 10 points.

The Lincoln women's team is tied for 14th place with six points. West Texas A&M and Mary top the team standings with 15 points each.

Diana Cauldwell took third in the long jump with a mark of 20-2.25 on her final attempt. She'll also participate in the triple jump today.

Rene Medley will run in the 60-meter dash finals after posting a time of 7.42 seconds, the second fastest mark, in the preliminaries. She also advanced to the finals of the 200-meter dash. Her time of 24.19 seconds was fourth fastest.

Also advancing to the second day of the championships was Renea Ambersley, who ran a time of 54.88 seconds in the 400-meter dash for the second best qualifying mark.

Missouri Southern's Allie Heckemeyer (St. Elizabeth High School) will compete in the pentathlon and triple jump today.
