Engbers named LU softball coach

The Lincoln softball team has a new head coach.

Christine Engbers will take over the Blue Tigers, Lincoln announced Tuesday.

Engbers comes to Lincoln after spending the past two years as the head coach at Covenant College, a Division III school.

Engbers helped turn around a Covenant program that won 28 games from 2013-15. She became an assistant in 2016 and her alma mater has won 63 games since.

Engbers began her coaching career in 2012 at Dade County High School in Trenton, Ga. leading the program to three-straight state tournament appearances, highlighted by a Class AA championship in her first season. She was named the GACA Coach of the Year that season, as well as the Georgia Dugout Club Coach of the Year.

During her four-year playing career at Covenant, Engbers earned NCCAA All-American first team honors, NCCAA Regional Player of the Year accolades and was selected to the NCCAA All-Tournament Team. Engbers holds Covenant's single-season (26) and career (59) records for stolen bases, and is fourth in program history with 162 hits.

Engbers also started 42 games during a three-year basketball career at Covenant.
