Pair of Missouri Tiger pitchers get selected in MLB Draft

The Missouri baseball team had two players selected on the second day of the MLB Draft.

Left-handed pitcher Michael Plassmeyer was selected with the 118th overall pick by the Seattle Mariners in the fourth round, while right-handed pitcher Bryce Montes de Oca was picked 260th overall by the New York Mets in the ninth round.

Plassmeyer finished the 2018 season with a 5-4 record for the Tigers, posting a 3.05 ERA in 91 innings. He struck out 103 batters and yielded just 17 walks. He ranked second in the Southeastern Conference in strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Plassmeyer, who just finished his junior season at Missouri, still has the option to return as a senior.

Montes de Oca posted a career-best 3.13 ERA this past spring for the Tigers while compiling a 6-4 record. He pitched 54 innings and struck out 65 batters and walked 33.

This is the third time Montes de Oca has been selected in the MLB Draft. He was taken by the Chicago White Sox in the 14th round of the 2014 draft out of high school and was picked in the 15th round by the Washington Nationals in last year's draft following his junior season.

The MLB Draft concludes today with rounds 11-40.
