Renegades blank Chillicothe in MINK League action

CHILLICOTHE, Mo. - The rest appears to have done wonders for the Jefferson City Renegades.

After having back-to-back days off, the Renegades got seven shutout innings by Matthew Wade on Friday night in an 11-0 win against the Chillicothe Mudcats in MINK League play.

Jefferson City had allowed a total of 39 runs in its previous two games. Wade's performance could not have come at a better time.

Wade allowed just three hits - all singles - in the win, his second of the summer. He yielded just one walk and struck out seven.

Alex Loosbrock walked one and struck out one in the eighth, while Daniel Lloyd walked two and struck out one in the ninth.

The game was scoreless until the top of the fifth inning. Kaden Helsel hit a leadoff double, advanced to third on Jordan Smith's single and then scored on a groundout by Christian Rodriguez to make it 1-0.

Smith also scored on a single by Quincy Jones in the inning. Jones is tied for second in the league with 34 RBI.

Jefferson City tacked on three more runs in the sixth to lead 5-0.

The Renegades then scored six times in the top of the ninth, sending 11 batters to the plate.

Jefferson City had four of its 12 hits in the final inning. Marquise Doherty, Helsel and Kaelen Dowling each had RBI singles in the ninth.

Helsel went 2-for-4 with a single, a double and two runs scored. Justin McIntyre and Austin Blazevic each had two singles, while Tyler Bracht had a pair of RBI.

Jefferson City (16-17) plays today at Nevada, beginning a three-game series with the Griffons. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
