Heckemeyer wins MIAA pentathlon title

PITTSBURG, Kan. - Missouri Southern senior Allie Heckemeyer claimed the conference title in the women's pentathlon Friday on the first day of the MIAA indoor track and field championships.

Heckemeyer (St. Elizabeth High School) finished with 3,665 points, while Central Missouri's Hannah Vanbuskirk was second with 3,549 and Northwest Missouri's Audrey Wichmann took third with 3,547.

Heckemeyer's best finish came in the long jump, taking first place with a jump of 18 feet, 2.25 inches. She also took second in the shot put (35-6.5), third in the 60-meter hurdles (9.22 seconds), and tied for fourth in the high jump (5-3.75).

In the final event of the pentathlon, Heckemeyer sealed her title with a fourth-place finish in the 800-meter run, clocking a time of 2:25.91.

Heckemeyer's first-place finish puts Missouri Southern in second place in the team standings with 10 points.

The MIAA championships will continue today and conclude Sunday.
