College Track and Field: Dorge wins weight throw title

WARRENSBURG - Central Missouri senior Amy Dorge won the women's weight throw Friday at the UCM Classic.

Dorge (Blair Oaks High School) set a personal-best throw of 57 feet, 0.5 inches to win the event. She also finished third in the shot put with a throw of 44-10.75, posting provisional throws for the NCAA Division II indoor track and field championships in both events.

Freshman Emma Alberston (Helias High School) took sixth in the shot put for the Jennies with a throw of 40-11.75, while freshman Baylie Bellin (Blair Oaks High School) finished 11th in the weight throw with a toss of 38-5.5.

Missouri Southern senior Allie Heckemeyer (St. Elizabeth High School) came away with a pair of runner-up finishes. Heckemeyer placed second in the women's 60-meter hurdles in a time of 9.36 seconds, as well as taking second in the high jump, clearing the bar at 5.25.

Missouri S&T junior Tori Bonnot (Jefferson City High School) came in sixth place in the women's mile run, clocking a time of 5:29.92.

In the men's events, Missouri S&T senior John Karsten (Blair Oaks High School) finished in the top six in both throwing events.

Karsten took fifth place in the weight throw with a toss of 60-1, as well as finishing sixth in the shot put with a throw of 52.4-5. Both are provisional marks for the national championships.

Missouri S&T freshman Luke Allen (Calvary Lutheran High School) placed seventh in the triple jump with a distance of 41-5.

Drury freshman Brendan Bena (Jefferson City High School) came in sixth place in the men's 800-meter run, posting a time of 2:01.89.
