College Track: Missouri Southern Open results

JOPLIN - The Lincoln men's and women's track and field teams won eight events Friday at Saturday at the Lion Open hosted by Missouri Southern.

The women picked up five wins, led by Diana Cauldwell's first-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 39 feet, 4 inches, which is a provisional mark for the NCAA Division II indoor track and field championships. Cauldwell also finished second in the long jump with a leap of 19-2.75, also a provisional mark.

Rene Medley, Renea Ambersley and Shanice Clarke each recorded two wins. They were on the Blue Tigers' first-place 4x400-meter relay, along with Danielle James, which clocked a time of 3:58.54.

Clarke won the 600-yard run in 1:30.35, Ambersley took first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.05 seconds and Medley was victorious in the 60-meter dash final in 7.58 seconds, which is a provisional-qualifying time.

Other notable finishes for the Lincoln women include Tajera Lawkin, who was seventh in the triple jump with a distance of 35-1.25. James also placed fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:22.16.

The Lincoln men had three individual champions.

Sedeekie Edie finished first in the men's long jump with a leap of 24-3.75, a provisional mark. Edie was also runner-up in the triple jump with a provisional distance of 49-3.

In the track events, Kevon Robinson won the 800 in 1:56.37, while Jeromia Riley took first in the 600 with a time of 1:12.92.

The Blue Tigers recorded 13 top-5 finishes in the men's events. The trio of Roberto Smith, Jakiel David and Javan Gray each finished back-to-back-to-back in a pair of events.

Smith led the Blue Tigers with a third-place finish in the 60 with a time of 6.89 seconds. David (6.901) and Gray (6.905) followed in fourth- and fifth-place, respectively.

Gray was runner-up in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.29 seconds. Trailing him were David in third place at 22.45 and Smith in fourth at 22.49.

Coy Spencer added a fourth-place time in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.64.

The Lincoln men also had two top-4 relays. The 4x400-meter relay of Robinson, Faedian Royes, Tyrese Halls and Riley finished fourth in 3:26.16. The distance medley relay of Hillary Kandie, Alva Henry, Riley and Matthew Kibet placed third in a time of 10:53.20.

Missouri Southern senior Allie Heckemeyer (St. Elizabeth High School) finished second in the women's triple jump, posting a provisional mark of 38-7.5. Sophomore Gabriel Hill (School of the Osage High School) added an 10th-place finish in the women's 3,000-meter run in a time of 11:14.61.

William Jewell sophomore Lexie Stull (Jefferson City High School) finished 10th in the triple jump with a distance of 33-6.

Central Missouri senior Amy Dorge (Blair Oaks High School) had a pair of top-3 finishes, taking second in the women's shot put with a throw of 44-11 - a provisional mark - and finishing third in the weight throw with a toss of 54-1. Freshman Emma Albertson (Helias High School) took sixth in the shot put with a throw of 40-9.5 for the Jennies.

Southwest Baptist freshman Rachel Holt (Jefferson City High School) tied for 12th place in the women's pole vault, clearing a height of 9-10. Missouri S&T junior Tori Bonnot (Jefferson City High School) also finished 12th in the women's mile run in 5:39.29.

Missouri S&T senior John Karsten (Blair Oaks High School) had two top-10 finishes in throwing events. He placed seventh in the men's weight throw (56-10.25) and was ninth in the shot put (47-6.5).

Southwest Baptist sophomore Drake Wilkerson (St. Elizabeth High School) placed fourth in the men's 600 with a time of 1:15.95. He was also on the Bearcats' 4x400, which finished eighth in 3:31.26.

Drury freshman Brendan Bena (Jefferson City High School) came in eighth place in the men's 800 with a time of 2:02.54. Bena was also on the Panthers' distance medley relay, which placed fourth in 10:56.59.
