Lincoln opens indoor track season at Kansas, wins six events at meet

LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Lincoln men's and women's track and field teams combined for six event wins Friday, opening the indoor season at the Bob Timmons Challenge.

Rene Medley and Javan Gray were double-winners for the Blue Tigers.

Medley led the Lincoln women with first-place finishes in the 60-meter dash, posting a time of 7.51 seconds, and in the 200-meter dash, clocking a time of 24.63 seconds.

Gray won the men's 60-meter hurdles in 6.90 seconds and also won the 200 in 22.20 seconds.

Renea Ambersley added another win for the Lincoln women in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.33 seconds, winning by more than two seconds.

The Blue Tigers also won the women's distance medley. The team of Danielle James, Dylann Core, Kamoy Fagan and Melissa Tyme posted a first-place time of 13:33.95.

The women added three runner-up finishes. Christine Moss took second in the 400 (56.41 seconds), while Kissi-Ann Brown was fourth (57.21) and Core placed seventh (59.98).

In the 200, Moss also finished second in 24.78 seconds, while Core placed sixth (26.18) and Jamika Hypolite was eighth (26.54) for the Blue Tigers.

The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Brown, Ambersley, Shanice Clarke and Moss also finished second in 3:48.11.

As for other top-eight finishes for the Lincoln women, Rusheda Blake placed fourth in the triple jump (36 feet, 11.5 inches), while James was fourth in the 800-meter run (2:21.57) and Tyme also finished seventh in the 800 (2:31.41).

Kizan David led the Lincoln men in the field events. He placed second in the long jump (23-4) and took third in the triple jump (47-11.25). Souleyman Seck also finished sixth in the triple jump (44-10.25) for the Blue Tigers.

Tyrese Halls gave the Blue Tigers a 1-2 finish in the men's 200, finishing runner-up in 22.58 seconds. Halls also took fourth on the Lincoln 4x400 in 3:23.43 with Damaine Dixon, Coy Spence and Kevon Robinson.

In the 400, Halls was fourth in 50.01 seconds, followed by Dixon in sixth in 51.00. Spence added a fifth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.36, followed by Abubakar Mohammed in seventh (8.67).

Other top-eight finishes for the Lincoln men include Robinson finishing fifth in the 800 (2:01.45) and Stephen Rose placing seventh in the 200 (23.05).

Lincoln competes next in the Mel Tjeerdsma Challenge, which is hosted by Northwest Missouri on Friday and Saturday in Maryville.
