Hale Hentges received a prestigious honor Sunday night at the Alabama football awards banquet.

Hentges, a senior tight end who played at Helias High School, was voted one of four permanent captains of the 2018 team  by his teammates. Hentges and the other three will have their handprints and cleatmarks cemented at the university's Quad during a ceremony prior to next year's spring football game.

The selection of permanent captains is a tradition that goes back to 1948 and previous honorees include players such as Bart Starr, Joe Namath and Ken Stabler.

Hentges also was one of four players to receive the President's Award during the banquet. The award goes to a player who has shown perseverance in making outstanding contributions to the team's success.

Hentges also was one of two players to be named an Outstanding Senior Scholar, which goes to the senior with the highest GPA on the team.

On Saturday, Hentges and Alabama defeated Georgia 35-28 in the Southeastern Conference championship game in Atlanta.

The Crimson Tide (13-0) are the No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoffs and will take on fourth-seeded Oklahoma (12-1) in the semifinals on Dec. 29 in the Orange Bowl in Miami.
