College Wrestling: Kuster wins at Drury Open

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Drury freshman Peter Kuster finished 4-0 Saturday to win an individual title at 141 pounds in the Drury Open.

Kuster (Jefferson City High School) opened with a win by technical fall (17-1) in the first round, then won a 12-3 major decision in the quarterfinals.

In the semifinals, Kuster won a 9-1 major decision against Lindenwood freshman Zack Carr (Helias High School). Kuster then won an 8-6 decision against Mikey Mascarenas of Northeast Oklahoma in the championship match.

This is the third title Kuster (12-0) has won this season. Last month, he won at 141 in the Kaufman Open at Maryville, as well as taking first at 141 in the Dan Harris Open at Baker.

At Baker, Kuster finished first out of 23 wrestlers. He was up against 17 wrestlers at Maryville and was in a 15-person bracket Saturday.

Carr would go on to finish fifth in Saturday's tournament with a 2-2 record. After receiving a first-round bye, he won by fall in 4:30 in the quarterfinals before losing to Kuster. Carr lost by fall in the consolation semifinals and then won the fifth-place match by injury default.

Team scores were not kept at the tournament.

Drury competes next Sunday in Newman's Jet Invitational at Wichita, Kan.

Lindenwood competes next Sunday in a dual at Central Missouri.
