College Volleyball: Maxwell tallies five kills

PITTSBURGH - Washburn sophomore middle hitter Allison Maxwell finished with five kills Friday in the Ichabods' 25-23, 25-19, 25-15 loss to Tampa in the NCAA Division II Tournament national semifinals.

Washburn was the No. 5 seed in the Elite Eight, while Tampa was awarded the No. 1 seed. Tampa went on to win the national championship Saturday, beating Western Washington 21-25, 25-18, 21-25, 25-23, 15-11.

Maxwell (Blair Oaks High School) was second on the Ichabods in kills this season with 382, which ranked seventh in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association this season and tied for 90th in Division II. She also led the Ichabods with 126 total blocks, which tied for first in the MIAA and tied for 35th in Division II.

Through her first two seasons, Maxwell has 599 kills and 225 total blocks.

Washburn, ranked No. 8 in the final regular-season AVCA Coaches Top 25 poll, finished the season with a 33-5 record.
