Lincoln track posts 26 top-5 finishes at Missouri S&T

ROLLA, Mo. - The Lincoln men's and women's track and field teams recorded nine event wins Saturday at the Dewey Allgood Invitational, hosted by Missouri S&T.

The Lincoln women came away with six of those wins, led by Diana Cauldwell. The senior posted a victory in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 1.5 inches, and added another first-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 37-8.

The Blue Tigers picked up the remaining four wins on the track. The 4x100-meter relay team of Segale Brown, Shurane Elliott, Shiana Vandenburg and Rusheda Blake clocked a winning time of 48.02 seconds.

Brown added a second win in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.46 seconds.

Renea Ambersley won the 200-meter dash in 24.43 seconds and Shanice Clarke finished first in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.18.

For the Lincoln men, the Blue Tigers completed title sweeps in the 4x100 and the 400 hurdles.

Tyrese Halls, Stephen Rose, Javan Gray and Kizan David clocked a winning time of 41.17 seconds in the 4x100, while Coy Spencer won the 400 hurdles in a time of 53.81 seconds.

Hillary Kandie also won the 5,000-meter run in 15:58.12.

As for other top finishers for the Blue Tigers, the Lincoln women claimed four of the top-5 spots in the triple jump. Tajera Lawkin came in second place (37-2.5) behind Cauldwell, while Blake finished third (36-5.75) and Wedjie Atis placed fifth (35-7.25).

In the women's 100-meter dash, Elliott took third place (12.58 seconds), followed by Vandenburg in fourth (12.77). Brown added a third-place time in the 200 (25.28) and Atis placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (16.04).

The Lincoln men had six runner-up finishes Saturday, starting the with 4x400-meter relay. Alva Henry, Kevon Robinson, Spencer and Halls clocked a second-place time of 3:15.73, just 0.24 seconds behind Missouri S&T.

Spencer also took second in the 110-meter hurdles (15.45 seconds) and Mathew Kibet gave the Blue Tigers a 1-2 finish in the 5,000, taking second in 15:58.55. Robinson also came in second in the 800-meter run (1:54.66).

The remaining second-place finishes came in the jump events. David was second in the long jump with a leap of 23-6.75 and Owen Smith was runner-up in the triple jump with a distance of 46-5.5.

Also garnering top-5 finishes for the Lincoln men were Halls taking third in the 400-meter dash (48.81 seconds), Henry placing third in the 400 hurdles (54.14), David claiming third in the triple jump (45-3.5) and Mohammed Abubakar finishing fourth in the 400 hurdles (56.34).

Three area athletes came away with first-place finishes during Saturday's meet.

Missouri S&T freshman Luke Allen (Calvary Lutheran High School) earned his first collegiate win, taking the title in the men's long jump. Allen set a personal best with a jump of 23 feet, 9 inches, which is a provisional mark for the NCAA Division II national championships.

In other events, Allen took seventh in the triple jump (43-6) and ran with the Miners' 4x100-meter relay, which placed sixth in a time of 43.88 seconds.

Missouri S&T senior John Karsten (Blair Oaks High School) got his first event win of the outdoor season with a first-place finish in the men's shot put. He won the title in his home meet with a throw of 52-8.25.

Karsten was also a runner-up in the discus with a toss of 152-9.

William Woods senior Madelyn Scrivner (Eldon High School) won the women's hammer throw for the third straight meet for the Owls. Scrivner's toss of 164-0 won by more than 10 feet.

Scrivner also placed sixth in the discus with a throw of 119-9.

Missouri S&T junior Tori Bonnot (Jefferson City High School) had a trio of top-6 finishes Saturday.

Bonnot was third in the women's 5,000-meter run in 19:40.12 and finished fourth in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 5:01.97. She also ran on the Miners' 4x400-meter relay team, which placed sixth in 4:24.13.

William Woods freshman Naomi Kerkula (Jefferson City High School) and junior Justice Miller (Russellville High School) ran on the Owls' women's 4x100-meter relay, which came in third place with a time of 49.54 seconds.

Kerkula added a seventh-place time of 1:01.64 in the 400-meter dash.

Miller finished 24th in the 100-meter dash (13.68 seconds) and placed 30th in the 200-meter dash (28.41).

William Jewell sophomore Lexie Stull (Jefferson City High School) finished sixth in the women's triple jump (34-8.5) and placed 20th in the long jump (14-2.5).

William Woods junior Cassidy Roling (Helias High School) placed eighth in the women's hammer throw (130-11), while freshman Harley Nale (Linn High School) took ninth in the women's 800-meter run (2:27.24) for the Owls. Freshman Shaley Eichholz (Eugene High School) took 33rd in the 1,500 for the Owls in a time of 6:20.36.

Westminster senior Taylor Howard (South Callaway High School) competed in three events, with her best finish being in the women's pole vault, clearing a height of 8-3.25 to take seventh place. She also finished 10th in the 400-meter hurdles (1:10.99) and 16th in the javelin (93-2).

On the men's side, Missouri S&T sophomore Daniel Miller (Jefferson City High School) finished eighth in the hammer throw with a toss of 143-4.

William Woods had three competitors in the men's 1500. Freshman Hunter Carpenter (California High School) led the trio with a 10th-place finish in a time of 4:15.09. Sophomore Matt Fringer (Russellville High School) took 22nd in 4:27.55, followed by sophomore Charlie Schattgen (New Bloomfield High School) in 33rd place in 4:41.12.

William Woods sophomore Damian Miller (Russellville High School) was 10th in the men's pole vault (12-10.25) and placed 27th in the 400 (57.90 seconds).

Westminster junior Kole Rackers (Blair Oaks High School) finished 20th in the men's 400 (53.55 seconds) and placed 23rd in the javelin (73-8).
