Lincoln breaks four records at Mule Relays

WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The Lincoln men's and women's track and field teams combined to win nine events while breaking four stadium records Friday at the Mule Relays, hosted by Central Missouri.

The Lincoln women won six of those titles, setting three stadium records in the process.

Rene Medley won the 200-meter dash in a time of 24.31 seconds, breaking the previous record of 24.40 set in 1994.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Segale Brown, Renea Ambersley, Shiana Vandenburg and Shanice Clarke won in a time of 3:41.83, breaking the previous record of 3:46.94 set back in 1989.

Diana Cauldwell won the triple jump with a distance of 40 feet, 6.25 inches, breaking the previous record of 39-9.25 set in 1993.

Also winning for the Lincoln women were Medley in the 100-meter dash finals with a time of 11.83 seconds, as well as Christine Moss in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.75 seconds. Clarke picked up a win the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:02.92.

Five the women's six wins - excluding Clarke in the 400 hurdles - are provisional marks for the NCAA Division II national championships.

Other top-5 finishers for the Lincoln women include Moss taking second in the 200 (24.65 seconds), Vandenburg placing fourth in the 100 finals (12.49) and Melissa Tyme taking fourth in the 5,000-meter run (19:45.72).

For the Lincoln men, Roberto Smith broke the stadium record in the 100 finals with a winning time of 10.37 seconds, also a provisional time. The previous stadium record with 10.46 seconds set in 2004.

In addition to sweeping the 100 titles, Javan Gray completed the sweep in the 200 with a winning time of 21.74 seconds. He finished second in the 100 behind Smith with a time of 10.68, while Smith was also runner-up in the 200 in 21.78.

Smith and Gray also ran on Lincoln's first-place 4x100-meter relay team. Joined by Kizan David and Tyrese Halls, the Blue Tigers posted a winning time of 40.98 seconds, another provisional time for the national championships.

Coy Spencer took second in the 110-meter hurdle finals in a time of 14.59 seconds, while Mohammed Abubakar was fifth in 15.46. Kevon Robinson finished third in the 400 with a time of 49.32 seconds.

In the 10,000-meter run, Mathew Kibet placed fourth in 32:27.30, edging Hillary Kandie, who was fifth in 32:27.44.

In the field events, David took second in the triple jump in 47-11.75, followed by Smith in third at 47-1. David also placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 23-2.75.

Missouri Southern senior Allie Heckemeyer also broke a stadium record Friday at the Mule Relays.

Heckemeyer (St. Elizabeth High School) finished second in the women's triple jump, posting a distance of 39 feet, 10.75 inches, which is a provisional mark for the NCAA Division II national championships. She joined Lincoln's Diana Cauldwell in surpassing the previous stadium record of 39-9.25 set in 1993.

In addition to the triple jump, Heckemeyer had a second-place finish on the Lions' 4x400-meter relay, which clocked a time of 3:57.03. She also took seventh in the 100-meter hurdle preliminaries (15.64 seconds) and was eighth in the javelin (108-7).

Central Missouri senior Amy Dorge (Blair Oaks High School) finished second in the women's hammer throw with a toss of 189-0, a provisional-qualifying mark. She also took third in the discus (139-3) and finished ninth in the shot put (43-1).

Also competing in the throwing events for the Jennies were freshman Baylie Bellin (Blair Oaks High School), who finished 10th in the hammer throw (145-10), and freshman Emma Albertson (Helias High School), who placed 15th in the discus (112-3).

Columbia College senior Grace Young (Russellville High School) finished seventh in the women's 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:03.81.

On the men's side, Drury freshman Brendan Bena (Jefferson City High School) finished ninth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.13. He also ran on the Panthers' 4x400 relay, which took seventh place in a time of 3:38.98.

Columbia College freshman Alex Krieg (Fatima High School) placed 11th in the men's 1,500, clocking a time of 4:12.56.
