Former LU hoops standout entering MIAA Hall of Fame

LaMonte Pruitt, who was the MIAA player of the year in back-to-back seasons in the '70s, will be enshrined in the MIAA Hall of Fame, the league office announced Monday.

Pruitt led the conference in scoring with 20.5 points per game during the 1972-73 season. He was the league leader in rebounding with 13.8 per game the next season. That mark still stands as the best rebounding average by a Lincoln player.

Pruitt finished his four-year career at Lincoln with 1,825 points, which is third all-time, and 949 rebounds, fourth all-time.

The Blue Tigers won 63 games during Pruitt's career, which included a regular season MIAA championship in the 1971-72 season.

Pruitt will be the fourth Lincoln athlete to enter the MIAA HOF, joining basketball player Harold Robertson, basketball coach Donald Corbett and track and field athlete Walter Walker. Pruitt is already a member of the Lincoln HOF, being enshrined in 2016.

Robertson and Pruitt are the only Blue Tigers to win back-to-back conference player of the year awards.

The induction ceremony will be part of the MIAA Awards Ceremony held on June 4 in the Truman Forum Auditorium at the Kansas City Public Library.
