IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Missouri women's basketball team made the needed runs Saturday to pick up its first win of the season by defeating Quinnipiac 66-51 to split its two games in the Hawkeye Challenge.
Jordan Frericks had her second straight 20-point performance, scoring 23 to go along with 17 rebounds for a double-double.
The Tigers led by as many as 11 in the first half, but the Bobcats took a 37-36 lead with 4:17 left in the third quarter.
Missouri led by two with less than a minute left in the third quarter before an 8-0 run gave the Tigers the final spark they needed.
Cierra Porter, who had 15 points and five rebounds, and Jordan Chavis, who scored six points on 2-of-4 shooting from beyond the arc, each knocked down a 3-pointer during the run.
The closest the Bobcats could get was 54-45 with 7:12 remaining in the game.
Missouri led 15-5 after the first quarter, 28-25 at halftime and 51-41 after three quarters. Quinnipiac only led three times in the game.
Missouri (1-1) will have its home opener at 7 p.m. Thursday when it hosts Wright State.
