Missouri St. makes NCAA Tourney in baseball, Missouri doesn't

The Missouri State Bears made it. The Missouri Tigers didn't.

Missouri State was selected for the NCAA Division I baseball championships for the 10th time in program history, it was announced Monday. Missouri State is the No. 2 seed in the Fayetteville (Ark.) Regional behind host and No. 1 seed Arkansas.

Missouri State (40-17) will meet Oklahoma State (30-25) in the opening round of the regional at 2 p.m. Friday. Arkansas (42-17) and Oral Roberts (42-14) are the other two squads in the four-team regional. The double-elimination event will run through Monday.

The Bears won the Missouri Valley Conference regular-season title this year and finished second in the league's postseason tournament. Missouri State is ranked 12th in the latest Collegiate Baseball poll, one spot ahead of Arkansas.

Missouri State won a regional title in its last appearance in 2015 before falling to Arkansas in a Super Regional series.

The 16 regional champs will advance to the Super Regional round to be held June 9-12. The eight winners of three-game, head-to-head series qualifies for the College World Series on June 17-28 at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha in Omaha, Neb.

Missouri was not selected for the tournament.

The Tigers (36-23) had a 20-game winning streak earlier this season to climb into the national rankings. But Missouri struggled at the start of Southeastern Conference play to finish 10th in the league this season.

Missouri defeated Texas A&M to start the SEC Tournament last week in Hoover, Ala., but were eliminated after losing its next two games.

The Tigers had an RPI of 49 at the end of the season.

The 36 victories under first-year coach Steve Bieser were the most for the program since 2008 and a 10-win improvement from the 2016 season. Missouri has not made the NCAAs in baseball since 2012.
