College Softball: Welch pitches another shutout for Cougars

COLUMBIA - Columbia College senior Paxton Welch tossed her third shutout this season last Wednesday as the Cougars won 6-0 against Stephens College in American Midwest Conference play.

Welch (Helias High School) allowed just two hits in seven innings, finishing with one walk and four strikeouts. She improved her season record to 9-2 and lowered her ERA to a team-best 1.15 in 67 innings pitched.

Junior Allyson Metz (Jefferson City High School), the reigning NAIA Player of the Week, went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in the first inning, her fourth homer of the season. She is batting .474 (37-for-78) with 30 RBI and 20 runs scored.

Metz also went 3-for-3 with a triple in the second game of the doubleheader, a 9-1 Columbia College win.

Junior Karli Leeper (South Callaway High School) went 1-for-3 with an RBI in game two.

Columbia College (21-2, 10-0 AMC), ranked No. 3 in the NAIA, plays a doubleheader today at Webber University in Babson Park, Fla.
