College Baseball: Beard improves to 5-0

CLEVELAND, Miss. - Delta State senior Corey Beard pitched eight innings Saturday, leading the Statesmen to an 8-4 victory against North Alabama.

Beard (Jefferson City High School) allowed four runs (two earned) on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Delta State broke a tie with four runs in the bottom of the eighth to give Beard the win.

The right-hander is now 5-0 this season, winning each of his last three decisions. He has 41 strikeouts in 491/3 innings and lowered his ERA to 4.38.

Delta State (22-7), which swept a three-game series against North Alabama, will play Tuesday at Southern Arkansas. The Statesmen are one spot outside the NCBWA Division II Top 25 poll.
