Women's Basketball: Volkart leads Owls at NAIA Tournament

BILLINGS, Mont. - William Woods senior Kennedy Volkart scored a team-high nine points Saturday in the Owls' 71-34 loss to fifth-ranked Vanguard in the NAIA national tournament quarterfinals.

Volkart (Russellville High School) shot 4-of-9 from the field and also grabbed a team-best three steals to go with a pair of rebounds.

It was William Woods' first-ever appearance in the national quarterfinals, earning one of the last at-large bids to the tournament. As the No. 8 seed in the Liston Bracket, William Woods (22-12) knocked off the bracket's No. 1 seed, Shawnee State, 88-85 in the first round Thursday.

The Owls then made a 3-pointer with :01 left to beat John Brown 64-61 in the second round Saturday. Shawnee State was ranked No. 3 in the NAIA and John Brown was No. 19.

Volkart finishes her collegiate career with 1,096 points and 716 rebounds.
