Renegades end first season with walkoff loss in playoffs

NEVADA, Mo. - The Jefferson City Renegades seemed to be on their way to a postseason victory Wednesday night after a three-run fifth inning gave them a 5-1 lead against the Nevada Griffons. But two errors cost Jefferson City.

A two-out error in the eighth put runners on the corners and a pair of singles followed to tie it at 5.

A leadoff walk and an error preceded the game-winning single by Brendt Citta won it for Nevada, 6-5.

The Renegades' inaugural season in the MINK League ends with a 17-26 record, 20-26 overall.

Nevada (22-21) advances to play the Ozark Generals at 7 p.m. today in the North Division championship game.

The Renegades appeared to be heading to the seventh with a 5-1 lead, but the Griffons got within 5-3 after a hit by pitch and a Marco Young home run with two outs.

Young went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Citta was 4-for-5 with an RBI.

Kory Haught got the win with a scoreless ninth inning despite walking the first two batters.

Mike Million got the scoring going for Jefferson City with a solo homer in the second inning.

Jordan Smith led off the second with a walk and later scored on a wild pitch.

Tyler Cunningham made it 5-0 Renegades with a bases-clearing double in the fifth. He finished 2-for-3. Million and Hunter Southerland each went 2-for-4.

Taylor Thompson took a no-decision, pitching seven innings. He allowed three runs on eighth hits with five strikeouts. Christian Stelling took the loss.
