College Wrestling: Irwin finishes 2-2 at tourney

MARSHALL - Williams Baptist freshman Tanner Irwin posted a 2-2 record last Friday and Saturday at the Missouri Valley Invitational

Irwin (Jefferson City High School), wrestling in the 133-pound bracket and seeded eighth among the 33 wrestlers, started the tournament with a 9-0 win against Oklahoma City's Coulton Parker, followed by a win by fall in :55 against Cole Mills of Northwestern College.

Irwin suffered a loss by technical fall (17-0) to Indiana Tech's Mitch Pawlak - the No. 1 seed and eventual champion - in the quarterfinals and then lost a 15-3 decision against Blaysen Terukina of Menlo College in the consolation bracket.

With a 21-7 record this season, Irwin is ranked No. 14 at 133 in the NAIA.

Williams Baptist (13-2), ranked ninth in the NAIA, will host the American Midwest Conference Tournament on Saturday.
