College Track: Martin wins MVC triple jump title

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Southern Illinois junior Kezia Martin won the conference title in the women's triple jump at the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, held Saturday and Sunday at Northern Iowa.

Martin (Jefferson City High School) posted a winning jump of 41 feet, 8.5 inches Sunday, finishing a foot ahead of second-place finisher Jamie Newsome of Indiana State. Martin is the reigning conference champion in the triple jump during the outdoor season as well.

In Saturday's long jump event, Martin finished fifth with a leap of 19-2.

Also competing for the Salukis was freshman Alexa Roberson (Jefferson City High School), who took fourth in the women's weight throw with a toss of 58-2.25, as well as placing 14th in the shot put with a throw of 42-2.25.
