College Track: Karsten medals at GLVC meet

INDIANAPOLIS - Missouri S&T junior John Karsten recorded a pair of top-four finishes during the Great Lakes Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, which were held Saturday and Sunday.

Karsten (Blair Oaks High School) took third place in the men's weight throw Saturday with a toss of 58 feet, 8 inches. On Sunday, Karsten placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 50-7.5.

Also competing for the Miners was freshman Nathan Bustamante, who took eighth place out of 15 competitors in the heptathlon with 3,947 points. His top event was the 1,000-meter run, finishing fourth in 2:53.84.

Bustamante (Jefferson City High School) also took 10th place in the pole vault, clearing a height of 13-10.

Lewis junior Mervyn John (Jefferson City High School) finished 18th in the long jump with a leap of 19-6.75.

In the women's meet, Truman State sophomore Hannah Oberdiek (South Callaway High School) finished sixth in the long jump with a leap of 17-8.25.

Sophomore Caitlyn Mahoney (Jefferson City High School) also competed for the Bulldogs, taking 11th place in the pole vault, clearing a height of 9-5.

William Jewell freshman Lexie Stull (Jefferson City High School) placed eighth in the triple jump with a distance of 34-4.75.
