Mitchell tallies 31, Owls topple No. 3 Columbia College 65-57

COLUMBIA, Mo. - William Woods University senior forward Trey Mitchell delivered a game-high 31 points to help the Owls end their regular season by upsetting the No. 3 Columbia College Cougars in a 65-57 AMC victory Saturday that extended their winning streak to four games.

William Woods (20-10, 14-8 American Midwest Conference) - which lost to Columbia 71-64 on Jan. 16 in Fulton - rallied from a 31-23 halftime deficit Saturday.

The Cougars (26-4, 19-3) led 40-32 with 15 minutes, 1 second remaining in the game when the Owls went on a 17-3 run to take a 49-43 advantage with 9:16 left.

William Woods led 54-53 with 4:02 to go and made it 60-57 with 2:22 remaining. The Owls sealed the win by making 5-of-7 free throws.

Junior guard DaShaun Stark also provided 12 points for William Woods, which shot just 33 percent (19-of-57) from the field. Senior center Klayton Kuschel pulled down a team-high nine rebounds to guide William Woods to a 48-42 advantage on the boards.

Nic Reynolds led the Cougars - who shot a dismal 30 percent (18-of-60) as a team - with 13 points. Preston Whitfield and Malik Ray added 12 points apiece.

William Woods plays in the AMC postseason tournament quarterfinals Thursday night. The Owls' seed and opponent has not been determined.
