Lincoln's Blake wins 200-meter dash at Lion Invite

JOPLIN - Lincoln senior Roger Blake won the 200-meter dash Saturday, claiming the Blue Tigers' only event title at the Lion Invite hosted by Missouri Southern.

Blake won the event with a time of 22.12 seconds, which is a provisional time for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships. Nicholas Khouri also finished fourth in 22.88 and Steven Henderson placed seventh in 23.18.

Blake added another top finish for the Blue Tigers in the 400-meter dash. He finished second in a time of 51.169 seconds, fourth-thousandths of a second behind Drury's Chaaz Ferguson-Cooper. Henderson took fifth place in 52.34.

Alva Henry also recorded a top three finish for Lincoln, finished third in the 600-yard run with a time of 1:15.66.

As for other Lincoln competitors, Oshane Hylton finished fifth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.11 seconds and Alex Templeton was fifth in the high jump, clearing 6 feet, 3.25 inches. Owen Smith finished fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 46-5.5.

The only competitor at the meet for the Lincoln women's team was Tajera Lawkin, who finished fourth in the women's triple jump with a distance of 34-1.25.

Lincoln will compete Friday at the UCM Classic in Warrensburg to conclude the indoor track and field regular season.

Missouri S&T junior John Karsten posted a provisional mark in the men's shot put. Karsten (Blair Oaks High School) finished fifth with a top throw of 52-2.5.

Missouri Southern junior Tyler Rush (Linn High School) helped the Lions' distance medley relay post a provisional time of 10:04.02 to finish in second place.

Missouri S&T freshman Nathan Bustamante (Jefferson City High School) took ninth place in the heptathlon with 4,125 points. He finished third in the 1,000-meter run (2:55.21) and the pole vault (14-5.25).

In the women's meet, Missouri Southern junior Allie Heckemeyer posted a provisional mark in winning the triple jump. Heckemeyer (St. Elizabeth High School) had a top distance of 38-1.25 to win the event.

Missouri Southern freshman Gabriel Hill (School of the Osage High School) placed fifth in the 3,000-meter run in 11:15.06. Missouri S&T sophomore Tori Bonnot (Jefferson City High School) finished 13th in 12:09.18.
