Women's Basketball: Iowa Wesleyan 65, Westminster 53

MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa - The Westminster Lady Blue Jays shot just 35 percent (21-of-60) as a team in their St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference loss to the Iowa Wesleyan Lady Tigers on Saturday.

Westminster College (9-14, 7-8 SLIAC) - which lost to Iowa Wesleyan University 66-61 in Fulton - trailed 14-10 after the first quarter Saturday, but outscored the Lady Tigers 20-15 in the second quarter to take a 30-29 advantage at halftime. Iowa Wesleyan (9-12, 8-6) outscored the Lady Blue Jays 14-10 in the third quarter to go in front 43-40.

The Lady Tigers then took control by outscoring Westminster 22-13 in the fourth quarter.

Junior guard Payton Beeler came off the bench to direct the Lady Blue Jays with 18 points, while senior guard Andrea Zalis provided 14.

"I'm so proud of Payton's mental approach to the game today," Westminster head coach Tracey Braden said. "This was the best game for her and she competed for the entire game."

Sophomore forward Ali Perry pulled down a game-high eight rebounds, but the Lady Blue Jays were outrebounded by a slim 33-32 edge.

Cairece Allen paced Iowa Wesleyan with 18 points and Jaimie Hurd logged 17.

Westminster ends the regular season with a SLIAC game at Eureka (Illinois) College at 3 p.m. Wednesday. The Lady Blue Jays were battered by the Lady Red Devils 75-47 last Monday in Fulton.
