College Baseball: Mantle powers Vikings

HILLSBORO - Jefferson College sophomore Ryan Mantle had three extra-base hits last Tuesday in the Vikings' doubleheader sweep of Three Rivers Community College.

Mantle (Linn High School) was 2-for-5 with one single, one double and two runs scored in game one, a 14-6 win. In game two, he scored three runs and drove in two runs, adding a double and a home run in the Vikings' 16-1 win in five innings.

Mantle's home run was his team-high eighth of the season and he also leads the team with 46 runs scored to go along with 36 RBI and a .373 batting average (53-for-142) in 43 games.

Freshman Jacob Voss (Linn High School) pitched a scoreless fifth inning to wrap up game two. Voss, who didn't allowed an earned run this season until Thursday against State Fair Community College, has a 0.64 ERA with 31 strikeouts in 14 innings pitched.

Jefferson College (37-12), which is receiving votes in the NJCAA Division I rankings, hosts Webster JV on Tuesday.
