Lincoln men take first in three events at Kansas Relays

LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Lincoln University Blue Tigers recorded seven top-3 finishes during the Kansas Relays, a four-day event which concluded Saturday.

The Lincoln men won three events, including two relays Saturday.

The Blue Tigers finished the day with a win in the 4x400-meter relay. After finishing third in the preliminaries Friday, the team of Alva Henry, Faedian Royes, Kevon Robinson and Miguel Barton posted a winning time of 3:12.55 on Saturday.

Lincoln also won the men's 4x100-meter relay. In addition to posting the top time in Friday's preliminaries, Jakiel David, Wesley Best, Roberto Smith and Oshane Hylton had a time of 40.69 seconds in Saturday's finals.

The Lincoln men's other win came Friday, when Sedeekie Edie won the triple jump with a distance of 49 feet, 1.5 inches. He finished nearly 31/2 feet ahead of the second-place finisher.

Royes also finished second in the 400-meter dash final with a time of 47.15 seconds,.

Barton finished fifth in the 200-meter dash preliminaries but did not compete in Saturday's finals. Henry finished 12th in the 400-meter hurdle prelimaries.

The Lincoln women had a pair of runner-up finishes at the Relays. Diana Cauldwell placed second in the triple jump Friday with a distance of 41-3.

After finishing third in the 100-meter dash preliminaries, Sharolyn Joseph Hamblet took second in the finals with a time of 11.86 seconds.

Lincoln's 4x400-meter relay team of Ja'Ianna Williams, Renea Ambersley, Kissi-Ann Brown and Shanice Clarke finished third in a time of 3:44.61. The 4x100-meter relay team took fourth in the preliminaries but was disqualified in Saturday's finals.

Clarke placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.19 and Kimberley Bailey took sixth in the 200-meter dash finals in 24.53 seconds.

Lincoln will compete next in the Drake Relays, a three-day event which begins Thursday.

Southern Illinois freshman Alexis Roberson competed in the team quad at the Relays, which also included Minnesota, California and host Kansas on the women's side.

Roberson (Jefferson City High School) finished in fourth place in the women's shot put with a throw of 43-5.25 and also competed in the discus Saturday, taking seventh with a throw of 145-5.

In Friday's hammer throw event, Roberson took eighth place with a toss of 164-7.
